PARIS Ryan Ramczyk Saints Jersey , March 4 (Xinhua) -- French Finance Minister Michel Sapin on Friday announced that budget deficit of France, eurozone's second biggest economy, would be lower than the previously expected 3.8 percent for the whole year of 2015.

""I don't know the final number yet, but what I can tell you today is that not only was our target met, but it was even exceeded, improved,"" Sapin said.

In an interview with the local broadcaster Europe1, French minister also confirmed the 3.3 percent target for this year.

""This is an objective which is in line with our budget law. It's an objective which is a commitment towards our European partners. It will be achieved,"" he stressed.

Under pressure to reach healthy finances, French government promised to bring down the budget deficit to 2.8 percent, below the EU-mandated threshold by 2017.

Last year, the EU offered France extra time to bring its budget gap to the safe line. However, the EU urged the French government to take additional measures and fiscal reforms to deliver on its promises.

YANGON, April 17 (Xinhua) -- A large number of Yangon residentshave been crowding around pagodas since Monday morning, especiallythe sacred Shwedagon Pagoda, and were paying their respects to theBuddhha there.

They bathed statues and sprinkled scented water on the images ofBuddha as part of Myanmar's centuries-old heritage practiced on thetraditional new year day, after the conclusion of the four-daywater festival, which ran from Thursday to Sunday.

As the New Year was being ushered in on Monday, Myanmar people, who are mostly Buddhist, are busy with their annual rituals such asvisiting monasteries, stupas, temples to take precepts, makingdonations and meditating.

On this day, young people normally pay their respects to theirparents, grandparents, teachers and elderly people. Some of themgive their elders baths, shampoo their hair or give manicures inold people's homes as a gesture to preserve Myanmar's age-oldcustoms and traditions. Other youngsters offer their seniorsnaturally fragrant sticks of bark.

Also during the New Year, it is customary for people to freecaged birds into the wilderness and fish in aquariums into thelakes, as a symbol of love for nature.

During the annual four-day traditional Thingyan water festival, people throw water on each another. By nature, water is cold andclean and, therefore, Thingyan water makes people feel cool, freshand pleasant, and happy. It symbolizes the cleansing of sins fromthe previous year and making a fresh and auspicious start to theNew Year.

Water is a symbol of not only cleanliness but also ofauspiciousness. The people in Myanmar believe that through thecelebration of the water festival, vices and evil deeds accumulatedduring the previous year can be washed away and replaced withhappiness and hope for a better life in the incoming year.

In old days, Myanmar people were content to sprinkle water oneach other using leaves, which was the traditional way of observingthe water festival.

Nowadays, however, more people are soaking each other usingwater guns or plastic hoses usually accompanied by loud guffaws, reflecting the fun and enjoyment.

This year's water festival in Myanmar was celebrated joyfully bythe people across the nation. Especially in Yangon and Manadalay, people introduced a "walking water festival" as a new form ofcelebration, with a huge wave of people in festive yet soggyclothes walking along the streets and roads, shouting and chanting, while having water thrown on them by spectators.

With heavy rain and cool weather providing nature's backdrop forthe last two days of the festival due to the impact of cycloneMaarutha making landfall in west Myanmar's Rakhine coast, thisyear's Thingyan water festival ended on Sunday evening.

The festival was brought to a close with a ceremony at theYangon City' Pandal, comprising a number of songs and dances.

Throughout the year, people look forward to the Myanmar waterfestival as an occasion to thank the deities for their goo.
